I Love Building. Marketing is the Hard Part.
A reflection on building TTRPG List and the challenges of getting indie games discovered.
I Love Building. Marketing is the Hard Part
I built TTRPG List because I love making things. Not just code.
For me, it's about shaping a quiet corner of the internet where small games can breathe.
But let's be real: building something is one thing.
Getting people to find it? That's the hard part.
Why I Started
When I started this project, my goal was simple.
Help indie creators get discovered.
Help players find their kind of weird.
And selfishly? Learn how to market something real without turning it into a sales pitch.
I'm still learning.
The Discovery Problem
Search engines reward size.
Ads reward money.
Most small games have neither.
So I'm doing what I can.
Writing posts. Tweaking tags.
I've been learning SEO from the ground up. Slowly, steadily.
And I'm sharing what I learn as I go.
If you're a creator struggling to get eyes on your game, I hope this site helps.
That's why every listing on TTRPG List includes a free backlink.
It might seem small, but it helps.
A clearer path in search.
A little boost in visibility.
One more thread tying your work to the people who need it.
Hopes and Dreams
I'd love for this site to support itself someday.
Maybe that means featured listings.
Maybe ads for Kickstarters, zines, tools, or something else entirely.
Maybe you have a better idea.
If you do, I'd love to hear it.
A Solo Project, Shared
This is a solo project.
It's my way of learning in public, building slowly, and hoping to bring some visibility to people doing great work without big platforms.
Thanks for reading.
If you've got thoughts, ideas, or a game to share, I'd love to hear from you.
